Guess who's back...

It’s been a very busy time at the Together Trust Archives over the last few months. Consequently our blog has been sadly neglected but it’s time to remedy that and let you know what we’ve been up to. Over the next few weeks we’ll be blogging about our Heritage Lottery funded Young Roots project – ‘Deep Pockets and Dirty Faces’ and show some of the activities we’ve been involved in since the project began in January. It’s been a really exciting and revealing time for some of our pupils as they start to delve into the history of the Together Trust.

Private Trust performance, November 2014

That’s not been the only thing we’ve been up to in recent weeks however. In March some of our pupils and staff attended the Manchester Histories Award at Manchester Town Hall. This awards ceremony recognises community and school projects that have been completed around the history of Manchester. Back in November 2014, young people from across our education services came together to work on ‘Private Trust’. This project aimed to explore World War One on the centenary of the outbreak of the War and discover stories from the Together Trust’s own archive of the men who went to fight.

A radio play and 4D performance was produced from the young people’s research and a display of poppies, made by the pupils, adorned the Cheadle campus to commemorate the lives of 400 former beneficiaries who had served in the First World War. A roll of honour was also compiled.

The amount of work put in by all the young people was recognised when they collected the Schools Award 2016 from Manchester Histories. The Together Trust will be involved with the charity again in June to help it celebrate its ten day festival across Manchester. We can't wait!
